When the skin suffers changes of aging and excessive sun damage it may become excessively red and develop a variety of red skin marks and growths. Dilated ‘broken’ veins often appear, particularly on the sun damaged facial skin. Sometimes there may be an underlying cause for the redness, a troublesome and common flushing condition known as rosacea.
Reddening of the skin of the neck is often a condition known as Poikiloderma. This condition arises when the delicate skin of the neck and decolletage are damaged by the sun’s ultraviolet rays. It is seen more often in women where there may be a additional effect from damage due to fragrance application to the neck. The neck skin reddens and darkens as a result of dilated capillaries and unwanted mottled pigmentation caused by the sun damage.
Treatments
Skin reddening may occur as a result of overexcitation of sensitive skin and an expert skin care programme may be an important treatment for this problem.
Troublesome facial flushing can be treated by utilising the benefits of broadband light to gently remove tiny dilated blood vessels while at the same time gently rejuvenating the facial complexion.
Widespread and persistent facial flushing often requires treatment with the pulsed dye laser to seal up the many unwanted dilated blood vessels in the skin.
Where there are larger dilated facial veins which give the face its ‘ruddy’ complexion, these can be carefully and precisely sealed up by means of copper bromide laser treatment.
Where the neck skin is red and blotchy (Poikiloderma), the dilated, unwanted blood vessels which give the skin its red appearance can be gently sealed and removed by treatment using the pulsed dye laser. Where there is a more mixed appearance of redness and pigmentation, broadband light is able to target both of these concerns and fade them from the neck and chest skin.
