Excessive sweating

Known as ‘hyperhidrosis’, this is a potentially very distressing condition where there is sweating in excess of that required for normal body temperature regulation. This condition may begin as early as childhood or adolescence. Although any site on the body can be affected, the sites most commonly affected are the palms, soles, and under arms. Hyperhidrosis often causes great emotional distress and occupational disability for the patient.

Treatment

Local antiperspirant application may be sufficient to control the excessive sweating but in many cases other treatments such as tablet medication or a technique known as iontophoresis, may be recommended.

The use of neuromodulation techniques to prevent the release of sweat fluid from the skin glands, has revolutionised management of this condition in some cases. At the Auckland Skin Laser Centre we can expertly employ the use of neuromodulation (Botox / Dysport) to help control this disabling condition.
