This condition arises when the delicate skin of the neck and decolletage are damaged by the sun’s ultraviolet rays. It is seen more often in women where there may be a additional effect from damage due to fragrance application to the neck. The neck skin reddens and darkens as a result of dilated capillaries and unwanted mottled pigmentation caused by the sun damage.

Treatment

The dilated unwanted blood vessels which give the skin its red appearance can be gently sealed and removed by treatment using the pulsed dye laser. Where there is a more mixed appearance of redness and pigmentation, broadband light is able to target both of these concerns and fade them from the neck and chest skin.
